A beginner-friendly SQL learning companion
SQL practice for kids, one question at a time
Learn how databases organize information, then use SQL to ask clear questions about it. Squirrel SQL Playground pairs short, guided examples with hands-on browser practice for young learners and beginners.

Start with a small set of ideas and build confidence step by step. Each core lesson has a worked example, a task to try, and a quick check. The Quiz Bank adds 50 questions in a short or full challenge.
- Tables and recordsUnderstand rows, columns, and how a database keeps information organized.
- SELECT and WHEREChoose which columns to show and use a clue to find matching rows.
- Sort and compareUse ORDER BY to put a list in a useful order.
- Create and add dataPractice CREATE TABLE and INSERT with made-up examples.
- Change data safelyLearn why UPDATE and DELETE need a careful WHERE condition.
- Connect tablesUse JOIN to bring related facts together; COUNT and GROUP BY are optional challenges.

A browser-based SQL playground
Read the example above the query box, load it into the editor, run it, and compare the result. My Sandbox shows each command’s general form followed by a working example, guiding learners through tables, rows, queries, and safe changes.
The playground uses SQLite in the browser, not Microsoft SQL Server. Book lesson changes reset on reload. Sandbox projects save locally in the same browser, device, and website address. Download a project backup to keep another copy or import it on another device. Clearing browser data or using private browsing can remove saves. Use pretend data only.
Common questions
What is SQL?
SQL is a language used to ask a database for information and to add or change data. This project introduces the basics with short examples.
Is this a SQL Server playground?
No. The static companion runs SQLite in the browser. The book explains that core ideas such as selecting, filtering, sorting, and joining are useful in both SQLite and SQL Server, while some commands and data types differ.
Do learners need to install a database?
No installation or account is built into the learning flow. Open the companion in a modern browser, follow a lesson, and try queries in the editor.
What is in the Quiz Bank?
The Quiz Bank has 50 questions across the book topics. Learners can choose a random ten-question practice or the full challenge, then review explanations and make a printable badge.
Can learners create their own tables?
Yes. My Sandbox starts with a separate blank database where learners can practice CREATE TABLE, INSERT, SELECT, and other basics without changing the book lesson data.
Can learners keep their projects?
Yes. My Projects saves sandbox databases, SQL drafts, and guided progress in the browser. Reopen a project later, or download and import a backup to move it. There are no accounts or automatic cross-device syncing, and anyone using the same browser can see its saved projects.
